CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Bringing a taste of old England right to the south end of Charlotte, Edens & Avant announces the addition of Big Ben British Restaurant & Pub to Atherton Mill. The British-inspired restaurant and pub is scheduled to open in late 2010 joining Ice House restaurant and the popular bi-weekly Atherton Market that features locally grown produce and other food products.

With new, unique dining and retail options designed to engage the surrounding community, the redevelopment of historic Atherton Mill is creating a destination for South End, Uptown, Dilworth and other area residents to spend time with friends in a comfortable, relaxing and convenient setting.

With over 20 years in the restaurant business, Big Ben owners Paula Casey and David Harris already enjoyed a loyal Charlotte following with the original Big Ben location in Myers Park. After the original restaurant was destroyed by fire in February 2010, Atherton Mill proved to be an inspired choice for relocation.

"We think the timing is just right for Big Ben's return to Charlotte," commented Edens & Avant Managing Director Lyle Darnall. "With the redevelopment of Atherton Mill, we've created a true destination point for Charlotte residents who are looking for a diverse shopping and dining experience. With the new farmers market, the addition of Ice House, and other new exciting retailers in the works, Big Ben will not only complement our existing retail mix but the restaurant will once again find its place among Charlotte's most unique dining venues."

"We are delighted with the potential of the Atherton Mill site," said Big Ben owner Paula Casey. "We think it's an ideal location and we look forward to being open again as soon as possible."

Billed as an authentic British pub, Big Ben will serve up traditional English meals made from family recipes that have been handed down for generations. From their signature "fish and chips" and other English entrees, Big Ben's menu is as impressive as their beer selection that includes such English favorites as Tetleys, Boddington, Guinness, Old Speckled Hen, Bass, Smithwicks and Woodchuck Cider.

Beyond its regular menu, Big Ben will also serve its "Full English Breakfast," a hearty eight item breakfast meal that includes imported English bacon and English favorite "bangers" (otherwise known as sausage on this side of the pond). The pub will also be the perfect place to watch international soccer and rugby matches and patrons can enjoy live music featured on a weekly basis.
