BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Aug. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- EDENS, one of the nation's leading retail real estate owners and developers, today announced the redevelopment of Sunshine Square, and the re-opening of Publix, the development's anchor tenant.  By focusing on design, merchandising and community engagement, EDENS is committed to redefining the South Florida retail landscape.

EDENS centers are uniquely designed to create a feeling of warmth and familiarity in each individual neighborhood.  A merchandise mix of the best local independent retailers combined with complementary regional and national retailers creates a "best-in-class" customer experience.  As Sunshine Square was originally developed in the 1960's, EDENS has designed the redeveloped center with the community in mind to deliver a place for community members to connect with friends and family.

EDENS has focused heavily on the design of Sunshine Square, specifically regarding the traffic and circulation of the center.  Through the redeveloped property, there will be an improved connection between the street and the retailers, creating more of a walk able community, along with additional outdoor dining areas and improved landscaping.

Sunshine Square tenants have been carefully chosen in an effort to deliver new and varied restaurant options including Panera Bread, Tijuana Flats and Smashburger, while also nurturing the long standing businesses that have been the pulse of the community including the Boynton Diner, Crown Wine and Spirits and Boynton Beach Postal and Gift.

EDENS purchased Sunshine Square in June 2010, and the property has always been the primary center serving the daily needs of the surrounding neighborhood.  Phase 1 of the redevelopment began in September 2010, which included a Bank of America parcel and the reworking of property access and the main entrance. In October 2011, Publix closed, and Phase 2 began.  Publix was originally a 20,000 square foot store, and was relocated to a 39,000 square foot store in the 1980's.  Publix will now open in a state of the art 54,000 square foot store.  Phase 2 included the demolition and rebuild of Publix, the demolition of part of an existing small shop and construction of what will be Panera Bread.  Additionally, EDENS extended the main drive aisle and installed public art.  Phase 3 will commence in August 2012, and will include the outparcel building on US 1 and the TD Bank building on Woolbright Road.  Phase 3 will be completed by December 2012.

On Saturday, August 4, 2012, EDENS will host a Community Fun Day, welcoming the Sunshine Square community members, residents and retailers the opportunity to come together and celebrate the new property.
