Asheville (August 18, 2014) – Autumn in Asheville is the perfect season–cool, crisp air settles in, the leaves turn, and the Blue Ridge Mountains take on a majestic glory. And, just in time to enjoy that scene, Whole Foods Market at Asheville Market opens August 26 at 9 a.m., complete with the Tunnel Road Tap Haus, a beer garden featuring local brews, kombucha and breath-taking mountain views.

“Asheville is an incredible place and we’re confident that Asheville Market will be at the center of that community,” says Lyle Darnall, a Managing Director at EDENS, the center’s owner. “We’re excited to partner with Whole Foods Market. It’s a company that not only shares our commitment to stewardship and quality but emphasizes local connections.”

Asheville Market has undergone a major redevelopment, transformed from a largely vacant space to one better suited for the area, especially with its integration of green initiatives and sustainable design. Materials and systems were selected with life-cycle costs in mind; high-efficiency lighting has been used throughout; and the landscape materials have been selected to minimize irrigation. These design practices are complemented by such on-site elements as ample bike racks and electric car charging stations, which reflect Asheville’s environmentally friendly sensibility.

Continuing the local theme, EDENS took design cues from the area’s dramatic scenery and has created a center rich in detail and craftsmanship. The center’s furniture and certain architectural touches were conceived by the owners of We Took to the Woods, a Greenville, SC, retailer who “celebrates the changing of seasons” through design, home furnishings, and other curated elements.

In addition to Whole Foods Market, several local, regional and national shops will continue to open throughout the rest of the year:

  • Elementality, a local favorite for women’s clothing and accessories.
  • Neo Burrito, an Asheville staple with its build-your-own burritos.
  • Plus, DSW Shoes, Guitar Center and Jared’s Jewelers.
