WASHINGTON, Nov. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- EDENS, a leading national retail real estate developer, introduces a new name to River Market shopping center, formerly known as Union Planters Plaza. Anchored by Whole Foods Market, River Market is ideally situated between downtown and residential Fort Lauderdale.
"Our decision to rename the center was an opportunity to ensure that it continues to evolve with the sophistication of the community," said Nicole Shiman, Vice President of Investments at EDENS. "Our Florida headquarters is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale; we work and live in this neighborhood. This new name better reflects our community and its history."
As an in-demand destination of Broward County, EDENS has consciously curated an exciting mix of local, regional and national retailers to cater to the families, local professionals and visitors in the surrounding neighborhood. Originally named for a previous bank tenant, the updated name designation is a nod to the New River, which is entirely within Broward County.
The center was originally built in 1960, and acquired by EDENS in 2011, rounding out a portfolio of 17 properties in South Florida. With more than 155,000 SF, this shopping destination offers both nationally known retailers, including Dick's Sporting Goods, Orangetheory Fitness, as well as local favorites, V's Barbershop and the Etiquette Boutique.
As part of the redevelopment efforts at River Market, EDENS is also continuing to add more national and regional tenants, including Lululemon, which is now open, and Pottery Barn, slated to open Spring 2018. In an effort to showcase public art that enages the neighborhood, EDENS has also commissioned Miami-native and local artist Hanna Ali to create a bold and inspiring mural that is reflective of and rooted in the South Florida community.
